Day of the City of Sarajevo with award-winning films “Kiss the Future” and “Track”

Screenings will be held at the Meeting Point cinema and the Kvartovsko kino Grbavica, where audiences will have the opportunity to watch the award-winning films “Kiss the Future” and “Track.”

Sarajevo, a UNESCO City of Film, and the City of Sarajevo are once again giving the public free admission on April 6, Day of the City of Sarajevo, for special film screenings. The screenings will take place at the Meeting Point cinema and the Kvartovsko kino Grbavica, where audiences will be able to watch the award-winning films “Kiss the Future” and “Track.” Both films tell powerful stories about Sarajevo - from its wartime past to the dreams of new generations - making them a symbolic gift to the public for the Day of the City of Sarajevo.

At the Meeting Point cinema in Sarajevo, on Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m., the film “Kiss the Future” by Nenad Čičin-Šain will be shown. It opened the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival and was voted the best documentary film by audiences at the 2023 Sarajevo Film Festival. At the Kvartovsko kino Grbavica, also at 6 p.m. the same day, the film “Track” by Ryan Sidhoo will be screened. It won the UniCredit Audience Award for Best Documentary Film at last year’s 31st Sarajevo Film Festival.

“Kiss the Future” tells a powerful story of Sarajevo’s resistance during the 1990s siege. Through testimonies of local residents, musicians, activists, and artists, the film follows how music and art became tools of resistance and global solidarity. The central moment of the film is the post-war U2 concert held in Sarajevo in 1997 - a moment that symbolized the triumph of hope over nationalism.

“Track” is a coming-of-age story following three teenagers - Mirza, Zlatan, and Hamza, trying to achieve their Olympic dream in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. While training on their war-damaged bobsled track, a relic of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics, they are guided by their dedicated coach Senad. His unwavering commitment to restoring the neglected track reflects his struggle to provide a future for the boys in a country with one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world.

Free tickets can be collected at the Meeting Point cinema and the Kvartovsko kino Grbavica one hour before the start of the screening.
